Description

With the Rendermaster 250, Alphacool offers a highly specialised water-cooled render workstation. The 19″ 4U unit is fully compatible to all 19″ server racks. All components have been carefully selected to achieve the best possible performance.

The Rendermaster 250 is based on the ASRock X399 Taichi mainboard in ATX format. This has four PCI Express 3.0 slots, two of which are each connected to the chipset with full 16 lanes and two with 8 lanes. Additional expansion cards can be connected into a single PCIe x1 slot. The CPU of the Rendermaster 250 is an AMD Threadripper 1920X, which offers an extremely high CPU performance with 12 cores and 24 threads with a base clock of 3.5 Ghz. The 1920X can utalise the massive 64 GB DDR4 RAM from the Kingston HyperX series. The RAM can optionally be extended up to 128 GB. For storage a high-performance Samsung 970 EVO SSD is used, which offers 1TB storage space. Power is supplied by a 1000W 80+ Gold Seasonic power supply.

The main load of the rendering work is usually done by the graphics cards. The Alphacool Rendermaster 250 contains four Nvidia P104-100 graphics cards with 8 GB each. The Nvidia P104-100 is a version of the Nvidia Geforce 1070 graphics card. The graphics cards are designed for special applications and provide computing power between the Nvidia Geforce 1070 and Nvidia Geforce 1070 TI (6655TFLOPS (Single), 208GFLOPS (Double)). The graphics cards are equipped with GDDR5X memory instead of the usual GDDR5 memory. GDDR5X memory works more efficiently and with lower power consumption. The graphics cards do not have a video output.

The CPU is cooled by the Alphacool Eisblock XPX Pro 1U CPU water cooler optimized for servers and workstations. The graphics cards are also cooled by Alphacool water coolers specially developed for servers and workstations. A 360 mm long and 60 mm thick Alphacool NexXxoS full copper radiator is used to ensure that all components are cooled sufficiently. With a capacity of 250 ml, the Eisstation reservoir offers high water volume. This significantly reduces the maintenance as you will not need to top up the reservoir as much, caused by natural diffusion. The DDC310 pump is located below the Eisstation and offers more than enough power for this water loop. Alphacool has developed a special terminal to which all components are connected with quick-release fasteners so that all components cooled with water can be easily exchanged. This means that if you need to exchange a graphics card, you only have to open the quick-release fasteners and pull out the card.

The advantage of the water cooling is the possibility to load all components under full load without throttling the GPU or CPU due to too much heat. In the worst case, the throttling can lead to a performance loss of 50% of the graphics cards. This happens especially in tight spaces such as server cases with a lot of hardware inside. The narrower the space, the worse air-cooled components perform in comparison.

Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed on the Rendermaster 250. This provides the basis for direct operation. Operation is via remote access. Through the possible use of the CUDA programming interface developed by Nividia enormous performance gains can be achieved for many applications.

The Rendermaster 250 can be described as a “personal supercomputer”. The outstanding performance offers the perfect basis as a render server, as a general workstation and is even suitable for use in cloud computing. The application possibilities are extensive. Thanks to the possibility of installing additional hard disks, the system can even be expanded to create a file server.

Thanks to an ingenious water cooling system, the Rendermaster 250 offers maximum performance by allowing the best possible performance of all water-cooled components. This makes the Rendermaster 250 faster than an air-cooled version with the same hardware equipment.
